Martha graham
Graham become famous when she danced and taught for over seventy years. She was the first dancer to perform at the White House, travel abroad as a cultural ambassador, and receive the highest civilian award of the US: the Presidential Medal of Freedom with Distinction's .She was influenced by her father, who used physical movement as a remedy for patients with nervous disorders. Dr. Graham believed that the body could express its inner senses, this is an idea that intrigued Martha.
Martha's modern dance was very different to how ballet was presented-
Although they both have slow movement, there is a big difference from the movements used in contemporary and ballet dancing. There are some contemporary dances that are very fast and upbeat. In contemporary dancing there is more variety in the moves. While in ballet there are very soft, and delicate moves .Contemporary dance stresses versatility and improvisation, unlike the strict, structured nature of ballet. Contemporary dancers focus on floorwork, using gravity to pull them down to the floor. This dance genre is often done in bare feet. Contemporary dance can be performed to many different styles of music.
how did Martha develop her contemporary technique?
in developing her technique, Martha Graham experimented endlessly with basic human movement, beginning with the most elemental movements of contraction and release. Using these principles as the foundation for her technique, she built a vocabulary of movement that would “increase the emotional activity of the dancer’s body.”

The reason I feel I’m executing this skill successfully is because in the warm up and dance routines I’m able to catch along easily and pick up the steps.
Area for development-
One skill I feel I need to develop is my flexibility
And exercise that highlighted this was a warm up
To get better at this I will do stretches daily in order to familiarise my muscles with the positions this will also improve my dancing.
This will help me improve the skill as my muscles will loosen and by doing flexible thing and stretches everyday my body will get used to it.
